Spaces That Breathe

Architecture and interior design rooted in light, material honesty, and the quiet poetry of everyday living.

Projects that define how we live

Each commission is a dialogue between place and purpose. Here are four recent narratives.

Casa Serra — Hillside Retreat

A concrete-and-glass residence carved into the Catalan hillside. The brief called for a home that disappears into its landscape — every room opens onto a private courtyard or the valley beyond. Local stone, exposed board-formed concrete, and Mediterranean oak define the material palette.

Scribe — Coworking & Library

A workspace that reads like a private library. Volume, silence, and deep oak.

Plaça Major Apartment

A 120m² apartment in an 18th-century Eixample building. Original ceiling mouldings meet custom joinery in warm grey and sage.

Can Framis Pavilion

A 400m² exhibition pavilion within the Can Framis museum grounds. The structure is a single folded concrete plane that lifts at one corner — creating a shaded entrance and a sculptural silhouette.

What we do

From a single room to a whole neighborhood — we bring the same attention to thresholds, light, and how a space feels when you enter it.

01

Architecture

New builds, renovations, and extensions. We work with concrete, steel, stone, and timber — each chosen for its behaviour over time, not just its appearance. Every project begins with a week of site observation before a single line is drawn.

Interior Design

We design interiors that age gracefully — joinery that patinates, textiles that soften, and light that shifts through the day. Our palette is restrained: stone, oak, lime plaster, hand-fired tile.

Urban & Landscape

Public spaces, master planning, and landscape architecture. We believe the best urban interventions feel inevitable — as though they have always been part of the city fabric. Plazas, park edges, waterfronts, and the spaces between buildings.

Master planning Public realm Landscape

From conversation to cornerstone

We keep the process human — no templates, no delivery-room formalism. Three movements, from the first conversation to the finished space.

Listen and Observe

We spend time on site — watching the light, feeling the wind, understanding how you actually live or work. This phase lasts as long as it needs to.

Draw and Refine

Physical models, hand sketches, and full-scale mock-ups. We test proportions with our hands before committing to construction drawings.

Build and Inhabit

We stay on site through construction — working alongside artisans, adjusting details, and ensuring the finished space holds the quiet conviction of the original idea.

What our clients say

We measure our work by how a space feels five years after completion — not on opening day.

"Atrium understood what we wanted before we had the words for it. Our home now breathes with the landscape — every window frames a view we never tire of."
James & Ana Torres
Casa Serra, Girona
"The pavilion feels ancient and entirely new at the same time. People walk through it slowly — which is exactly what art deserves."
Maria Costa
Director, Can Framis Museum
"We gave Atrium a challenging urban site and they gave us a building that dignifies the entire block. The craft is extraordinary — every joint, every material transition resolved."
Carlos Vives
Developer, Poblenou Quarter
Architecture studio workspace with models and natural light
"Architecture is not about form. It is about the quality of the space between walls — the light, the sound, the feeling of arrival."

Founded in 2012, Atrium is a Barcelona-based studio of twelve architects, designers, and makers. We work across scales — from a single piece of furniture to an entire neighborhood — but our concern is always the same: how a space shapes the people who move through it.

We are drawn to natural materials, honest construction, and the kind of quiet elegance that reveals itself slowly. Our projects have been recognized by the European Prize for Architecture, the FAD Awards, and the Barcelona City Council.
